Planned in conjunction with the Municipal Heritage Committee,  “Painting ‘Sugar Moon'” is this February's Heritage Arts Workshop at the Museum of Lennox & Addington. Celebrate Heritage Week with self-taught Mohawk Artist Theresa Brant. We will be recreating her painting ‘Sugar Moon’. In Theresa’s words:

“Sugar Moon” (The Last Full Moon of the Winter Season)

The first day of spring brings warmer temperatures and budding blooms, which brings […] on the Sugar Moon. This is when sugar maple trees start to produce sap, and a perfect time to set your intentions for abundance and prosperity.

Grandmother moon watches over the waters of the Earth. She controls all female life and much of the water.”

Demographic: Recommended for ages 11+ (is geared toward adults)

Cost: $30/person

Artist Bio:

I’m a self-taught Mohawk Artist from the Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory in Ontario Canada. I’ve always wanted to try to paint a flower but never had time as I was always working, that was until the Pandemic hit.

I finally had all the time in the world to try new things so my Artist son dropped off paints, brushes, and canvas to get me going as I had done for him 20 years prior. Painting is bringing me peace and loving the beauty in the world with every stroke of the brush.

Each painting is always a celebration and I’m amazed with each one when completed. It was a shock learning that I could paint at the age of 64 so I urge everyone to try it out. I paint with acrylics and love painting nature, sunsets, moons and trees… but I try everything now!
